Gay Travel Information – The Galley Grille – Westport, MA
The Galley Grille is something truly special.
Attached to White’s of Westport, The Galley Grille is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
Located conveniently off of I-195 and less than 30 minutes from Providence, The Galley Grille will make you feel as if you are dining aboard a ship, complete with port holes, ship’s steering wheel and sailing flags!
My partner and I were greeted by the friendly hostess upon arrival and shown to our table. I was instantly impressed by the fun, nautical decor and cozy atmosphere.
The two waitresses on that evening were super friendly and made Jen and I feel right at home.
I noticed all the unique design features of this local favorite, including the beautiful wood bar with it’s hanging lantern-like lights.
I love that The Galley Grille is the type restaurant that has regulars and provides such a comfortable environment one would feel fine dining alone (as I witnessed by a woman and gentleman).
There is even a cozy little lounge area with a flat screen TV (where the game is always on) and couch!
The Galley Grille won me over with it’s ambiance, but what about the food?
I am happy to report the food is delicious. Comfort food at its absolute best!
Prior to placing our order we were given a basket of fresh white and rye bread with a dipping oil which was flavored perfectly with red pepper flakes and seasonings.
For an appetizer Jen and I shared the Cranberry Bog Salad ($8.99) which was served with sliced grilled chicken breast over mixed greens with green peppers, red onions, Cape Cod craisens and walnuts.
For the dressing we chose a balsamic vinaigrette.
The size of the salad blew us away, let alone the immense freshness!
Four people could EASILY share this salad.
The chicken was grilled to perfection and the amounts of craisens and walnuts were extremely generous!
One of the best salads we every had — hands down!
Jen decided to give one of their drinks a try and settled on the ‘Nuts N Berries’ ($8.00 - Smirnoff Blueberry Vodka, Smirnoff Raspberry Vodka, Frangelico and Baileys Irish Creme served on the rocks).
She said the drink was “fantastically strong” and gave it two thumbs up!
Choosing our main entrees was a challenge as EVERYTHING sounded delicious. Truly. Everything.
I finally settled on their Roast Turkey Dinner ($15.99) which is served with freshly carved oven-roasted turkey breasts, Aime’s french meat stuffing, topped with their home-style gravy, with mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce.
Oh. Yes. This is the ultimate Thanksgiving dinner my friends. Again the portions were extremely generous. The turkey melted in my mouth and having never tried meat stuffing before I can say I am now a huge fan however, the creamy mashed potatoes won me over for sure.
Jen, a seafood lover, chose the Galley Seafood Trilogy ($21.99) which was served with scallops, shrimp and scrod, baked with a seafood topping.
It is pretty obvious that The Galley Grille uses only the freshest of seafood caught in its nearby waters.
The scallops were tender, the shrimp large, and fish melted in her mouth. Everything was baked perfectly together in a very flavorful seafood topping.
During dinner I received a phone call from a close friend who went into early labor (it’s a boy!) so Jen and I had to unfortunately skip out before dessert!
If their desserts are anything like what we had already eaten, I am pretty sure they are generous in size and to die for!
We will have to go back very soon to test them out!

Lafrance Hospitality as a whole is gay friendly and was very receptive to working with us here at Gay Travel Information. Not to mention, this is Massachusetts, the first state to legalize gay marriage! What better place than White’s of Westport? The Galley Grille is a cozy, atmospheric restaurant with a fun nautical theme and amazing food. The type food and service that will have you coming back over and over again. They deserve our support! I am officially “OUTING” The Galley Grille as LGBT friendly and worthy of our business.
The Galley Grille and Whites of Westport hold a special place in my partner’s heart.
White’s is where her parents, John & Gladys Walsh were married 40 years ago.
It is the place her brother, Patrick Walsh, worked at for many years as a banquet server.
Patrick & Jennifer
It holds many memories in Jen’s heart — and now mine.
It isn’t just the location, the decor or food….it is the service and knowing that there are genuinely good people behind this company.
I hated to have to leave my dinner review before dessert, but the entire experience left a sweet taste in my mouth — craving to go back and become a regular.
