Joe’s American Bar & Grill – Providence Place Mall – Providence, RI

Dining at Joe’s American Bar & Grill is all about traditional American cuisine. The elegant dining room with hard wood oak floors and brass accents gives the restaurant more of an upscale vibe but the atmosphere is definitely laid back!
Everyone from politicians to tourists to families would feel extremely comfortable dining here.
My partner Jennifer and I dined at the Joe’s American Bar & Grille located at the Providence Place Mall in Rhode Island. It makes the perfect stop prior or post shopping!
As soon as you step inside you can’t help but be impressed by Joe’s handsome decor. The first thing that struck me were the beautiful chandeliers hanging up.
I was later told by (the very friendly and personable) general manager, Jim Brosseau, that the chandeliers actually belonged to Bugsy Siegel! How cool is that? They were purchased during an auction by Joe’s and look stunning!
I then noticed the beautiful bar. Jim explained that the bar frame came from three old St. Louis railroads.
He said that each of Joe’s American Bar & Grill try to have unique features like that.
I loved the picture windows that opened up to the outside and the alfresco dining.
Since we were there on a mild evening, people were already enjoying these features!
Besides the impressive decor, the friendliness of the staff was also something that stuck out during the review. The hostess made sure to stop by to make sure everything was fine as did Jim. Our waitress (and the waitress-in-training) had great personalities and were very quick to bring Jennifer and I whatever we needed.
Now onto the food!
Joe’s menu features all the classic American favorites along with some signature dishes. Popular dishes include their fall-off-the-bone ribs, prime rib, roasted chicken, burgers with hand-cut fries, homemade soups, fresh signature salads and appetizers which include crab cakes and crispy calamari. Their dessert menu also has an Americana vibe with choices that range from warm apple walnut crisp, brownie ice cream sundae, their famous chocolate cake and apple pie.
For an appetizer Jen and I ordered their Margherita pizza made with tomato sauce, mozzarella, oregano and fresh basil, sprinkled with parmesan cheese.
YUM! The crust was crunchy and the sauce was flavored perfectly with fresh pieces of basil.
For our entrees Jennifer ordered the fish & chips but opted to try their mashed potatoes instead of fries.
I ordered the Sizzling Chicken Fajitas served with marinated chicken breast and onions (I skipped the peppers).
It was served with warmed soft flour tortillas, Pico de Gallo, sour cream, fresh guacamole and shredded cheese.
Jen couldn’t get over how light and delicious the batter was on her fish! She raved about that all night. She also said the mashed potatoes were super creamy and very good.
The chicken fajitas were AMAAAAAZING. MMM. I could smell the onions and hear the sizzling now! The serving size was more than generous and the chicken was flavored perfectly.
I also tried a side order of Joe’s onion rings, which were also made in a light batter and served with a horseradish type dip. Yum!
We made sure to take half our food home for leftovers so that we would have plenty of room for dessert and I am so glad we did! Between Jen’s apple crisp served with vanilla ice cream and my strawberry shortcake served on a homemade biscuit with vanilla ice cream, fresh strawberries and whipped creme, it almost felt like the 4th of July! Talk about American!
Joe’s desserts were, quite simply, phenomenal.
The biscuit stuffed with vanilla ice cream and topped with strawberries made my strawberry shortcake an absolute delight. I had never seen strawberry shortcake served like this before so I was super impressed!
Jen loved her apple crisp dessert as well and said it had just the right amount of cinnamon and that she could’ve eaten the whole pan! Those who know Jen know this is a huge compliment as Jen is very picky with her apple crisp desserts (her favorite).
I also want to mention that Jen ordered a delicious mudslide as well which was creamy and dangerously good!
Everything about our meal was enjoyable! The comfort of ordering familiar items served above and beyond from the norm. Joe’s American Bar & Grill goes that “extra step”!

GAY & LESBIAN FACTOR: Joe’s general manager, Jim Brosseau, was such a genuine, friendly man who more than welcomed Gay Travel Information. He made it a point to introduce himself and discussed how much he would love the LGBT community to know what a great place Joe’s American Bar & Grill is. We discussed how much he enjoyed it when the park across the street hosted events, such as Providence Pride and how he wished that it hadn’t moved. He is the type manager any corporation should be proud to have. He offered up tons of information on Joe’s, including the info on where a lot of the decor came from. He spoke with pride about Joe’s and had a true genuine nature about himself. Put it this way…… I just liked him. Period! Awesome guy! The food, drinks, location and ambiance are reason enough to visit Joe’s, but having such friendly people working here makes it all the more special. With that said I am “OUTING” Joe’s American Bar & Grill Providence Place Mall as LGBT friendly and worthy of our business. Ask for Jim and tell him we sent you!
Joe’s American Bar & Grill has been at the Providence Place Mall since it opened in August 1999 (Hey, what do you know? That is when Out & About Travel started as well!). It deserves our business and support for being such a gay friendly establishment. I wouldn’t be saying this however if the food/service wasn’t good, which it is! Joe’s wins all around! And just think, you can work off all those calories by shopping afterwards? Does it get any better than that? I didn’t think so.
